What is Layer Ablation?

Layer ablation refers to the removal of a layer from the surface of a part. Individual layers can be ablated without damaging the underlying surfaces.

Layer ablation is used to remove paints or coatings or to clean surfaces and does not damage the underlying surface of the material that is being ablated. The process reveals the material that is underneath.

The amount of material ablated depends on the laser’s power. The surface to be removed will absorb the laser’s energy and break down, revealing the substrate surface.
